Porsche 911 Turbo S (993) 1997
For Sale Porsche 911 Turbo S (993) 1997
Since the introduction of the “S” (Sport) model 911 in 1967, this letter has represented the highest performance of the 911. Unlike today’s production numbers, the Turbo S was Porsche Exclusive Department’s most exclusive reserve. Exclusive director Rolf Sprenger first affixed an S to a Turbo in 1991, and other 964 variants followed, leaving us with some of the most rare and collectible 911s on the planet. Then after a long wait, Porsche Exclusive elevated the 993 Turbo, slapping an “S” on the engine lid, applying all its best tricks and improvements, and last iteration of the air-cooled Turbo S was born. With about 40 more horsepower than its 993 little brother, and with better suspension and aerodynamic tweaks, it raced to 100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. To make this phenomenal responsive driving experience even more exclusive, Porsche limited production to only 345 units. To date, this model consistently lands in the top five driving experiences for many Porsche enthusiasts. And it’s the last of an era when the Turbo S was special.
In its timeless Black over Tan color combination. It shows few signs of wear and tear and has accumulated only about 25,000 miles. Complete with the comfort of its supple leather, it is a compelling example for a badass daily-driver or the occasional sprint out to a favorite getaway location.
We all know the Turbo market ramped up a few years back, and then perhaps endured the biggest market correction for Porsches. Surviving a “plateau”, so-to-speak, over the last couple of years, the 993 Turbo S is again trending in the right direction. Obviously being part of a limited production run and the last of air-cooled generation helps, but those of us who have driven and owned a ’97 Turbo S understand its importance and why it will always remain in the top tier of coveted 911s.
